Nepal: Girls’ Empowerment

Creating space for girls to learn, lead and shape their own futures.

In Devchuli, Nepal, Last Night A DJ Saved My Life is building a long-term partnership with a locally led Girls’ Empowerment Programme helping girls and young women develop the knowledge, confidence, skills and opportunities to shape their own futures.

Beginning with just 40 girls in 2018, the programme has now reached more than 27,000 girls and young women.

Through education, counselling, health education, vocational skills, self-defence, career development and peer support, the programme creates opportunities for girls facing barriers including early marriage, exploitation, trafficking and abuse.

Our role isn’t to arrive with all the answers.

It is to listen, collaborate and understand what is already working, then use the resources, skills, programmes and people within the LNADJ community to help build on it.

THE GIRLS LEARNING CENTRE

As the programme grew, the girls identified something they needed next:

a space of their own. A place to learn, meet, develop skills, access support and build community. That vision became the Girls Learning Centre in Devchuli. The building is there. Now we’re helping bring it to life.

Through fundraising and the support of our community, LNADJ is helping to equip the Centre and develop the opportunities available within it, creating a permanent base for learning, mentoring, skills development, creativity and connection.

But our partnership goes beyond funding.

The Campaign

EVERY GIRL SHOULD. EVERY GIRL CAN. EVERY GIRL WILL.

Our campaign is rooted in something the young women we’ve spoken to in Nepal have shown us again and again: give a girl access to knowledge, opportunity and the confidence to use her voice, and the impact rarely ends with her.

What began with 40 girls in 2018 has grown into a programme reaching more than 27,000 girls and young women.

Participants have gone on to become mentors, peer educators and advocates, taking what they have learned back into their schools, families and communities. One opportunity creates another. One voice gives another girl permission to find hers.

That ripple effect sits at the heart of our campaign.

EVERY GIRL SHOULD have access to education, knowledge, support and opportunity.

EVERY GIRL CAN develop the confidence and skills to make choices about her own future.

EVERY GIRL WILL have the chance to see what becomes possible when someone invests in her potential.
“I’m not the end of that investment. I’m its ripple effect.”
At 14, Sabnam questioned whether her voice mattered. Today, at 19, she is using that voice on national and international platforms and helping create opportunities for other girls.

As Sabnam told us: “When we invest in a girl, we are not just investing in one girl’s future. We’re investing in every life her voice will touch, every decision she will influence, and every girl who will dare to believe: if she can, maybe I can too.”

That is what this campaign is about: not speaking for girls, but investing in their ability to speak, lead and create opportunities for themselves and others.

And through our partnership in Nepal, we're helping take that next step, equipping the Girls Learning Centre, introducing mentorship and bringing LNADJ programmes, volunteers and expertise into the space, working collaboratively with our partners and the young women themselves.

Because when opportunity is shared, its impact travels.

WHAT OUR PARTNERSHIP LOOKS LIKE

We believe the strongest projects are built with communities, not for them.

Our work in Nepal combines local knowledge and leadership with the skills, resources and reach of the LNADJ community. Working alongside our partners on the ground, we’re developing a collaborative programme designed around what girls and young women tell us they need.

EQUIPPING THE CENTRE

Fundraising through A Sonic Adventure: Nepal and the wider LNADJ community will help equip the Girls Learning Centre and support the programmes and opportunities delivered there.

This is about more than filling a building with equipment. It’s about helping create a space that can continue serving girls and young women long after our visit has ended.

MENTORSHIP

We’re also taking part in direct mentorship.

LNADJ’s Ellie Talebian and Sonic Adventure trekker Jo are mentoring young women involved with the programme, sharing professional experience, guidance and practical support while creating space for an ongoing exchange of knowledge and ideas.

Mentorship works both ways. We’re there to share what we know, but also to listen and learn from the young women themselves.

The aim is to build relationships that continue beyond a single visit.

TAKING LNADJ PROGRAMMES TO NEPAL

We’re also taking elements of LNADJ’s pioneering programmes to Nepal.

Working with our partners on the ground and skilled LNADJ volunteers, we’ll explore how our existing projects can be adapted for the Girls Learning Centre and its community, responding to local priorities rather than simply replicating a programme designed somewhere else.

That means bringing together local expertise, LNADJ volunteers, creative practitioners and the girls themselves to develop activities collaboratively and authentically.

Music and creativity can create powerful routes into confidence, self-expression, connection and learning. Our aim is to provide tools and knowledge that can remain within the community, supporting local delivery long after our volunteers have returned home.

WHY LNADJ IS INVOLVED

Our mission is simple: Build hope through music.

Across the world, we work with trusted local partners to understand where our community can genuinely add value. Sometimes that’s equipment, oftentimes it’s funding and sometimes it’s knowledge, mentorship or access to opportunities.

And sometimes it’s bringing our programmes, volunteers and partners together to create something new. In Nepal, it is all of those things.

Our role is to connect the extraordinary resources of the global music community with the knowledge, ambition and leadership already present on the ground.

Local partners lead. We listen. And together, we build.

A SONIC ADVENTURE: NEPAL

In November 2026, members of the LNADJ community will travel to Nepal for Sonic Adventure with our partners in adventure The Tribe, trekking through the Annapurna region to Lake Tilicho at 4,920 metres.

The trek is an extraordinary challenge, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges faced by girls and young women in Nepal.

Our team will spend time with our partners and the young women involved in the programme, help deliver collaborative activities, begin our mentorship work and see first-hand how funds raised by the LNADJ community can support the next chapter of the Girls Learning Centre.

Every trekker is fundraising towards that shared goal.

The adventure gets us there.

What we build together is what matters.

EVERY GIRL SHOULD.

EVERY GIRL CAN.

EVERY GIRL WILL.

EVERY GIRL SHOULD have access to knowledge, opportunity and a safe space to learn.

EVERY GIRL CAN develop the confidence, skills and voice to make decisions about her own future.

EVERY GIRL WILL have the chance to see what is possible when circumstances no longer determine the size of her dreams.

And when one girl gets that opportunity, it rarely stops with her.

She takes it home, she takes it into her school, she shares it with another girl.

And the opportunity travels.

FOLLOW THE JOURNEY

This is the beginning of a longer partnership.

We’ll be sharing stories directly from the girls and young women involved, updates from the Girls Learning Centre, our mentorship journey, the development of LNADJ programmes in Nepal and, this October, the Sonic Adventure itself.
