THE CYCLE IBIZA CHALLENGE 2018
LNADJ hosted the event for a 3rd year running in 2018. The funds raised paid for 20 cleft palate operations & helped to put smiles back on children’s faces in The Philippines!
A cleft is a congenital birth defect that may occur just on the lip, on the palate, or on both. This affects 1 in 500 children in the Philippines. A cleft changes a child’s face completely. Sufferers struggle to speak or eat properly and this can put huge strain on families. Longer term, they can become isolated and struggle to gain education and find employment. In a country where 45% of the population live below the poverty line and 40% never see a doctor in their lifetime, children in the Philippines often go untreated because of extreme poverty. They need our support to provide this simple reconstructive surgery. The children we are sponsoring live in San Jose, where rebel groups make it difficult for aid workers to gain access. The nearest hospital is a 10-hour return car journey away..
The riders took in some of the most beautiful & iconic scenery on the island as they completed rides on 3 consecutive days as well stopping for refreshments & lunch in gorgeous locations, carefully chosen by our expert guides from Velo Club Ibiza!
The challenge also had huge success in 2016, 2017 and our community riders are building each year. 2017’s challenge raised £19341 which was donated to Feathers Tale Children’s Village, an incredible place in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro that provides much needed care for both special needs & able bodied children.
